Aren't those the COOLEST pictures you've ever seen? Doesn't he LOOK like a major league ball player? I have always loved my kids. . .but these pictures instantly made the vague "baby girl wishes" vanish. It is just so awesome to watch this kid play. He is really good too--he doesn't JUST have the looks. I love jumping up and down and screaming and seeing how far he can run before they can throw the ball in. I love watching him make the throw from the pitcher's mound to first base (dead on aim almost every time).
I almost blew these photos up and sent you all autographed copies! Seriously! He is that good! Now, I hear you laughing and saying to yourself "Self, she is so silly! Such a typical mom of the oldest child. She has no grasp on the reality of 8 year olds playing baseball."
And here is what I say to you----"Jealousy is not pretty! I'm very sorry for you that you are not the mother of the greatest baseball player of the next generation. Too bad for you." But, you know, it IS a team sport. He will not be able to play the game alone, no matter how good he is. And he will need opponents (although they will be CRUSHED AND HUMILIATED). So, perhaps there is hope for your child. But he will NEVER be as good as mine! Ha ha ha ha ha!!!!
Ok, ok, I'm joking. Sort of. Not really. He is truly an amazing athlete. I am still constantly amazed every time he hits the ball. I have still not adjusted to the fact that it is because he knows what he is doing! Not just luck! I still cross my fingers every time he's up to bat. I talk him through every play in the field (not out loud--just sort of mumbling to myself. The other moms from the team think I have multiple personalities, but they like most of them, so it's ok). I keep envisioning the little 4 year old that took 20 practice swings before hitting the ball off the tee and running straight to third base!
Truly. . .there was a reason I was a cheerleader in high school--to prepare me for motherhood. I am LOVING being the cheerleader for my kids! Loving it, I tell ya!!!

And there is something very special about watching your husband coach your son. It is emotional and moving. And actually quite attractive!
So, you will be sorry that you laughed at my enthusiasm when my son's autographed glossy photos are selling on Ebay for hundreds of dollars. You'll say "I should have taken her up on that offer for the autographed picture of him when he was only 8. Instead I laughed at her. . . hmmmm. . .wonder if I can still print that off her blog?" And by then it will be copyrighted by his publicist and even I will have to pay to print it! Ok, now I am going overboard (sort of, not really.)
Baseball season was fun. . .now a brief rest and we begin soccer. . .both oldest kids playing. . .daddy coaching both teams. . .it's gonna be GREAT!
