Another Profound Revelation

The other day, I heard God’s voice say “You’ve learned to say ‘Please,’ now learn to say ‘Thank you.’” I tend to slack off in my prayer life when things are going well (another reason the sermon from the previous post connected with me) but I get really chatty with God when I need some help. The last couple of weeks I have been putting effort into thank yous.

That includes little mundane things “Thank you God, for helping me find my spiral notebook so I didn’t have to recreate from memory the to do list for the Sock Hop.” To the big things “Thank you God for this mess with the house so that I have an opportunity to show You how I’ve heard You and learned (or am learning) the lessons You are showing me.”

Today I was just sitting on my front porch having a little chat with God and saying thank you for all kinds of things (like both of the above) and N came out and asked what I was doing. I told him I was talking to God. He asked if I was worried about something. I said “Nope. I’m actually not worried about anything if you can believe it! I was just saying thank you for a lot of stuff.”

The conversation then moved on to why grape flavored powerade is blue when it should obviously be purple…but not before I realized that was ANOTHER reason to say thank you—my kid came out and caught me praying, and I got to share with him a little moment of interaction with God. I want them to know that is the difference between a personal relationship with Him and just a belief that includes going to church and praying before meals.

I could TELL them that, but the fact is—they don’t listen so great. I’m kidding (partly). What I mean is that they listen to me, but obviously we all learn better from something we see in action than what we are told! So, THANK YOU God for giving me an opportunity to share You with my son. I hope he was not so distracted by the inaccurate powerade coloring that he actually caught it!!
